Clinical psychology as one of the core disciplines in the area of mental health/illness has grown significantly in the last two decades. Today, the clinical psychology training is being offered at more than ten recognized centers across the country with utmost efficiency. Consequently, the number of clinical psychologists available in service sectors has increased significantly. Though there is an upward trend, number of professionals currently available at various levels is no match to the number specified to face the ever growing demands in the field. In this context the ICFAI University, Tripura offers 2 year, full-time M.Phil in Clinical Psychology.

Aim

The aim of this program is to prepare the trainee to function as a qualified professional Clinical Psychologist in the areas of mental and physical health by offering Diagnostic, Therapeutic, Rehabilitative, Administrative services, and to work towards promoting the well-being and quality-of-life of individuals.

Objectives

  • The program is developed as a rigorous two-year program with extensive theoretical inputs and widespread clinical experience to acquire the necessary skills in the area of Clinical Psychology.
  • On completion of the program, the trainee is expected to perform the following functions: Diagnose mental health problems.
  • Conceptualize specific adult and child mental health problems within a psychological framework, giving due consideration to psychosocial/ contextual factors, and carry out relevant treatment / management.
  • Apply psychological principles and techniques in rehabilitating persons with mental health problems and disabilities. Work with the psychosocial dimensions of physical diseases, formulate and undertake focused/targeted psychosocial interventions.
  • Work with community to promote health, quality-of-life and psycho-logical well-being. Undertake research in the areas of clinical psychology such as, mental health/illness, physical health/diseases and relevant societal issues viz. misconception, stigma, discrimination, social tension, gender construction, life style etc.
  • Undertake responsibilities connected with teaching and training in core and allied areas of Clinical Psychology. Undertake administrative and supervisory/decision-making responsibilities in mental health area. Provide expert testimony in the court of law assuming different roles.

Duration of the Course

This is a full-time clinical training program providing opportunities for appropriate practicum and apprenticeship experiences for 2 academic years, divided as Part - I and II.

Eligibility Program-Icon

Pass in MA/M.Sc. in Psychology from a University recognized by UGC with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate, preferably with special paper in Clinical Psychology. For ST/SC category, minimum of 50% marks in aggregate is required.

Medium of Instruction

The medium of instruction will be English.

Program Pattern:

The program will be offered through semester or any other pattern as directed by RCI from time to time.

Certification as Registered Personnel:

It is mandatory for every rehabilitation professional / personnel to obtain a “Registered Personnel / Professional Certificate” from the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) to work in the field of special education in India. As continuous professional growth is necessary for the renewal of the certificate, the rehabilitation professional / personnel should undergo in-service program periodically to update their professional knowledge.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Year - I

Group A

  1. Paper I : Psychosocial Foundation of Behavior and Psychopathology
  2. Paper II : Statistics and Research Methodology
  3. Paper III : Psychiatry
  4. Practical : Psychological Assessments including Viva Voce

Group B

  1. Submission: Five full-length Psychodiagnostic Records, out of which one record each should be related to, child and neuropsychological assessment. The records should include a summary of the clinical history organized under relevant headings, and a discussion on a) rationale for testing, b) areas to be investigated, c) tests administered and their rationale, d) test findings and e) impression

Year - II

Group A

  1. Paper I: Biological Foundations of Behavior
  2. Paper II: Psychotherapy and Counseling
  3. Paper III: Behavioral Medicine
  4. Practical : Psychological Therapies including Viva Voce

Group B

  1. Submission: Five fully worked-out Psychotherapy Records, out of which one should be child therapy record. The records should include a summary of the clinical history organized under relevant headings, and a discussion on a) reasons for intervention(s), b) areas to be focused including short- and long-term objectives, c) type and technique of intervention employed and rationale d) therapy processes, e) changes in therapy or objectives, if any, and the reasons for the same, f) outcome,

g) prevention strategies, f) future plans

Group C

  1. Dissertation: Under the guidance of a Clinical Psychology faculty member with Ph.D. or minimum 2-yr experience (post-qualification) in clinical teaching or clinical research. If the research work is of interdisciplinary nature requiring input/ supervision from another specialist, co-guide(s) from the related discipline may be appointed as deem necessary.

Fee comprises of Admission Fee, Program Fee, Caution Deposit (Refundable), Hostel Fee and Hostel Deposit (Refundable) as per the details mentioned below:

Admission Fee

All candidates have to pay an Admission Fee of ₹ 20,000 for M.Phil in Clinical Psychology, MA Education, M.Ed, M.Ed Spl.Ed(ID), M.P.E.S, B.Ed, B.Ed Spl.Ed(ID), D.Ed Spl. Ed(ID), B.P.Ed, B.P.E.S, BPES(Lateral) and D.P.Ed, towards the confi rmation of admission.

Program Fee

Students should pay the fee mentioned in the table below at the beginning of each semester as per the due dates indicated in the student Handbook.

Domicile: Students belonging to the North-East States@;
Non-Domicile: Students from States other than North-East States.
@ (North East States: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura).

All students are required to pay a caution deposit of ₹ 10,000 along with the fi rst semester fee. The caution deposit will be refunded without interest and after adjusting for dues, if any, to the students on completion of the program. In case of those who leave the ICFAI University, Tripura for any other reason, it will be refunded after adjusting for dues, if any.

₹ 1,000 to be charged in the 1st year 2nd semester (One-time payment)

₹ 1,000 to be paid in two installments (₹ 500 each) in last 2 semesters of the program.
(Note: Student Activity Fund and Alumni Fee will not be applicable for certificate programs.)

Transportation facility is provided from city to campus on payment basis.

Hostel facility is available within the campus. Students will be required to pay the hostel fee as mentioned in the following table:

Hostel Fee per semester ₹ 17,000 per semester for 1st year. Subsequent years fee will be communicated before the commencement of the academic year.
Hostel Deposit (Refundable)  ₹ 10,000
Mess Charges Actual cost will be work out in consultation with Mess Committee.

All payments can be made by using Credit/Debit card or by Internet Banking. Students can also pay by way of Bank Demand Draft drawn on Scheduled Bank in favor of “The ICFAI University, Tripura - Fee Collection A/c” payable at Agartala, Tripura.
